What have we been doing in our local community this month?
Tom Owen and Son Funeral Director are proud to be part of the North Wales community. We are dedicated to supporting our local community in a variety of ways, here is what we have been up to in July 2023 in Llandudno and the surrounding areas of Colwyn Bay and Conwy.
Getting involved in the local communities of Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Conwy or attending charity events is a key part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme at Tom Owen and Son. We believe being an integral part of our community is incredibly important to us as a business. It's not just a tick box exercise!
Ty Gobaith and Hope House Open Day
On Saturday 1st July, Kelly and Tristan Owen attended a Ty Gobaith and Hope House open day on behalf of Tom Owen and Son. Held at their site in the heart of the Conwy Valley, we got to experience first hand the amazing facilities and care provided by this wonderful team. We met with the CEO, Andy Goldsmith and other key members of the team, alongside other supporters and visitors. We were treated to a tour of the premises followed by cake and coffee!
It was a privilege to be able to see the snowflake suite, a dedicated cool room, for anyone to use that loses a child or baby. The family can stay in the suite with their child and we were amazed to discover this is open to anyone, not just people who have used the hospice facilities.
Tris becomes Rotary Llandudno President
Tristan officially became the Rotary President in Llandudno on 1 July, taking over the leadership of the club from the late Alan Guinn, when he was presented with the club chain.
Tristan says "I'm honoured to have taken over from a great man, a friend and an inspiration. Alan always had time for me and was happy to impart his knowledge about the Club, and for that I will be eternally grateful. I'm looking forward to seeing what my time in office brings"
Llandudno in Bloom
During 3-7 July 2023, we waited eagerly for the team from Llandudno Town Council to visit our office and judge our efforts in this years, Llandudno In Bloom. We aren't particularly green fingered but we had fun planting up the pots, choosing purple, white and pink as our colour scheme. We opted for a mixture of bee attractors and perennials to increase the sustainability of our 'garden' and were over the moon to discover that we won Silver in our category.
We look forward to attending the Award Ceremony in September alongside all of the other fantastic winners!
Took part in the Henpicked webinar re Menstrual Health and Menopause in the workplace
On 4th July 2023, Kelly Owen attended an online webinar ran by Henpicked which was open to all members and those interested in learning more to help their colleagues. With two women working at Tom Owen and Son, it's important for us as a company to acknowledge and learn more about Menstrual Health and the Menopause.
The webinar helped to give facts and information regarding menstrual health and the menopause, a link to the new BSI Guidance document and how employers can support colleagues. Given that 8 in 10 people are going through the menopause age are in work and 1 in 4 people saying they experienced serious symptoms, we can't just do nothing. We have already implemented a menopause policy in the workplace, but are now looking to incorporate menstrual health guidance as part of our commitment to being as inclusive as possible.

Clive, accompanied by his wife Christine, joined the members of the illustrious golf club to share his insights and experiences from his past and present duties within the R&A. Having a long rooted connection to the golf club, via his mum Elsie Brown and grandad, Tom Jones, it was a humbling experience to listen to Clive speak.
Denbighshire Memoria Quiz
Nearly all of the team attended the Denbighshire Memoria Quiz night on 13th July 2023 at Neuadd Owen Village Hall in Cefn, alongside other local funeral directors and the Coroners team.
We failed to win the prize but a good night was had by all, and it was great to be able to put names to faces of those we work alongside.
Llandudno Youth Music Theatre
On Thursday 20th July 2023, we were delighted to be invited as guests of the Llandudno Youth Music Theatre at Venue Cymru by President, Colin Wickens, to watch the opening night performance of Imaginary. Produced and performed by the youth cast, it was a wonderful evening full of laughter and we thoroughly enjoyed the show!
Visit to the RNLI station in Llandudno
On Thursday 27 July 2023, Kelly headed to the RNLI station in Llandudno with her fellow Soroptimists for a tour. What a fascinating place to visit! We are incredibly lucky to have such a marvellous free service on our doorstep supporting the local community. Kelly, along with her fellow Soroptimists, had collected funds over the last few weeks, and presented a cheque for £130 to the station.
Llandudno Civic Sunday Parade 2023
